Ott 27, 2021

This time, the sessions will revolve around the localisation and implementation of the 2011 Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL Recommendation), which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year when the UNESCO HUL Call for Action was also launched. A special focus will be put on “Adapting Cities for Climate Resilience”, the theme of the World Cities Day for 2021 (31 October), aiming to provide a space for site managers and focal points to present and elaborate on your ideas and strategies for Climate Action and implementing the HUL approach when facing these issues. We also want to hear about the impacts of Climate Change and extreme-weather events on your World Heritage cities and discuss the challenges and possibilities of using the HUL Approach as a tool for sustainable development.

In this edition, the format of the Dialogues will be group calls of 2 hours through the MS Teams platform and will consist of:

  • Presentation of the results and main regional takeaways of the Anniversary event of the HUL Recommendation that took place in June 2021 by the team of the World Heritage Cities Programme.
  • Open group discussion, addressing the above-mentioned results, and discussing the possibilities and challenges for implementation of the HUL Recommendation in each world region and city, with a special focus on adaptation and resilience.

No presentations (e.g. PPT) from participants are required. 3 mins interventions are possible for those who would like to put forward either specific impacts or solutions. Please let us know if you would like to propose an intervention.

The takeaways (both regional and general) of the 10th Anniversary Event will be shared with you. We strongly encourage you to reflect on the state of your own city and those in your region.
