The World Heritage Convention encourages States Parties to strengthen the appreciation of the public for World Heritage properties and to enhance their protection through educational and information programmes.

The presentation and interpretation of World Heritage sites should, as set out in the Convention text, increase people’s awareness, understanding and appreciation of the need to preserve cultural and natural heritage, ensuring that future generations understand the values associated with this heritage and helping to increase stakeholders’ participation in the protection and presentation of heritage.

The Communication theme includes policies related to education, awareness raising, interpretation and use of the World Heritage emblem.

One of the best practice we’d like to talk about regarding the implementation of communication in an event, jet to come, organised and promoted by Ciudades Patrimonio de la Humanidad UNESCO de Espana, the Association of World Heritage Cities in Spain. Super pro-active during covid19 lockdown, the Ciudades  had worked hard to support the image and the strength of cultural heritage as a driver for intern development in Spain. Among the iniziative they have promoted so far, a special mention goes to “III Noche del Patrimonio”, scheduled on  12 of September 2020.

La Noche del Patrimonio. La Nit del Patrimoni. A Noite do Patrimonio – The Night of Heritage will be celebrated in 15 different city simultaneously: Alcalá de Henares, Ávila, Baeza, Cáceres, Córdoba, Cuenca, Ibiza / Eivissa, Mérida, Salamanca, San Cristóbal de la Laguna, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Tarragona, Toledo and Úbeda, will open in Night hours, from 8:00 p.m., the doors of its most emblematic monuments and will give life to its historic centers filling them with cultural and leisure activities, which can be enjoyed by neighbors and visitors.

The Heritage Night will be structured in three sections common to the 15 cities:

Open Heritage section – From 8:00 p.m. and until the wee hours, heritage and cultural spaces will be open to the public free of charge, allowing visitors to enjoy representative museums, palaces, churches, town halls and buildings, outside their normal hours. To this initiative are added some of the historical establishments that PARADORES manages in the Heritage Cities

Live section Heritage – From the Departments of Culture and Heritage of each city, a multitude of small-format shows will be organized for the different groups in the 15 cities, squares, streets and heritage spaces for choral concerts and instrumental groups, exhibitions, recitals of poetry, storytelling, puppets, dramatized visits, games, audiovisual projections, etc. within strict security measures. Here the local cultural groups will have a prominent role, as support of the municipalities to the cultural fabric

3.Heritage Scene section – The contemporary and creative dance will be the protagonist with 15 shows, one in each city of the network, which will be performed in squares, cloisters, old churches or other significant cultural spaces of its heritage.

The selection of companies and spaces that make up this festival has been made by the Group’s Education, Culture and Sports Commission, formed by the councilors of this area, with the artistic advice of Lorenzo Pappagallo, cultural manager, artistic advisor and coordinator of production of international events.

INTERNATIONAL ONLINE BROADCASTING

This year the great novelty of THE NIGHT OF HERITAGE will be the incorporation of a digital aspect that will reinforce and expand the programming, and above all make it reach more people, who from their homes will be able to enjoy that unique night at through the internet. The use of these platforms is an international trend in the performing arts, which, with the pandemic, has become general and has proven to be a very useful window to reach the general public, ”Pappagallo explained. This complement to LA NOCHE will be carried out through a powerful digital platform and a website www.lanochedelpatrimonio.com, from which the festival can be followed online as a gala and where there will also be room for live broadcasts of shows , to pre-recorded cultural resources such as virtual visits, performances or concerts, with a wide representation of the cultural production of the 15 cities.

INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT

UNESCO supports the celebration of this event by incorporating it on its website so that it can be followed from any country in the world live and will disseminate it through its media. That night France, United Kingdom, Italy and Germany will join this virtual festival through their World Heritage, since the Group has maintained a close relationship for years with the associations of those countries that bring together their World Heritage properties, in such a way so that through these entities LA NOCHE DEL PATRIMONIO opens to Europe and from the websites of these associations the event can be followed, which will also be enriched with contributions and material that those countries will post on the digital platform.
