The eight session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (previously foreseen from 25 to 27 August) will start on 8 September at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris under very particular conditions imposed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
With all appropriate sanitary measures in place as mentioned below, the 178 States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage are to come together after strenuous lockdown measures. Beyond the usual discussions such as revisions of the Operational Directives, elections to the Committee or management of the ICH Fund, the States Parties will be invited to reflect on the listing mechanisms of the Convention and on the very timely topic of intangible cultural heritage in emergencies. A virtual ResiliArt debate is also organized on 9 September, during lunch break, to allow communities from Italy, Mali, Palestine, Peru and Sri Lanka to speak about their living heritage within the context of COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, participants will be asked to respect strict sanitary measures including wearing a mask at all times, maintaining physical distancing and following strict circulation measures. To allow all stakeholders of the Convention to follow the debates despite travelling restrictions, UNESCO Secretariat has made particular efforts for webcasting, and for the first time, the General Assembly of 2003 Convention will be fully videocasted, in all 6 interpretation languages.
L’ottava sessione dell’Assemblea generale degli Stati parti della Convenzione per la salvaguardia del patrimonio culturale immateriale (precedentemente prevista dal 25 al 27 agosto) inizierà l’8 settembre presso la sede dell’UNESCO a Parigi a condizioni molto particolari, imposte dal COVID in corso -19 pandemia.
Con tutte le misure sanitarie appropriate come menzionato di seguito, i 178 Stati firmatari della Convenzione del 2003 per la salvaguardia del patrimonio culturale immateriale si incontreranno per discutere sulla revisione delle Direttive Operative, l’elezione del Comitato o la gestione del Fondo ICH. Gli Stati membri saranno inoltre invitati a riflettere sui meccanismi di quotazione della Convenzione e sul tema di grande attualità del patrimonio culturale immateriale nelle emergenze. Il 9 settembre, durante la pausa pranzo, viene inoltre organizzato un dibattito virtuale su ResiliArt per consentire alle comunità di Italia, Mali, Palestina, Perù e Sri Lanka di parlare del proprio patrimonio vivente nel contesto della pandemia COVID-19.
Durante l’incontro, ai partecipanti verrà chiesto di rispettare rigorose misure sanitarie, incluso indossare sempre una maschera, mantenere le distanze fisiche e seguire rigorose misure di circolazione. Per consentire a tutte le parti interessate della Convenzione di seguire i dibattiti nonostante le limitazioni ai viaggi, il Segretariato dell’UNESCO ha compiuto sforzi particolari per il webcasting e, per la prima volta, l’Assemblea generale della Convenzione del 2003 sarà interamente video-trasmessa, in tutte e 6 le lingue di interpretazione.
